What Are The Benefits of a Dedicated Workplace EV Charging Station?
EV charging points are becoming increasingly more common across businesses in the UK for many different reasons, from customer parking and staff requirements to fleet management.
At the end of 2018, almost 60,000 new electric cars were registered bringing the combined total of zero-emissions vehicles on the road to over 205,000.
Having a dedicated workplace EV charging station installed by an OZEV-approved installer is recommended, because:
- As an organisation, you’re actively working towards lowering your carbon footprint.
- You are future-proofing your business as the rise of electric vehicles is expected to rise.
- You are helping the government achieve its 2040 targets to improve air quality by reducing pollution.
- EV charging points are inexpensive to run and with help from the WCS are more accessible and affordable to install.
- They are water-resistant, durable and feature built-in safety features to make long term workplace EV charging functional and effective.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that provides grants for UK businesses to help with the purchase and installation of workplace EV charging stations.
The Government grant contribution is limited to £500 for each socket up to a maximum of 20 sockets, with the total contribution being up to £10,000.
By applying for a grant through the WCS, not only is EV charging installation more affordable, but your employees could also make substantial savings if they opt for a zero-emission vehicle!
If you would like further information about the OLEV WCS grant, please take a look at our electric vehicle grants page. Our electricians are always on hand to provide advice and recommendations when applying for a grant, or if you’re looking to discuss EV charging points, please give us a call on 0800 051 9324.
What Vehicles are Eligible for EV Charging at Work?
All fully electric and battery-powered vehicles are eligible for EV charging.
Hybrid plug-in vehicles must have a CO2 emissions score that is less than 75g/km. To find out whether your vehicle is eligible, please see our comprehensive list of approved electric and hybrid vehicles as specified by OLEV.
Are All EV Chargers the Same?
There are many different types of EV chargers, from mode types to power outputs. Here we have composed a full list of types of EV chargers.
For businesses, fast EV chargers, vandal-resistant EV chargers and EV wall unit chargers operated by a coin or token are most commonly used. Pay as You Go EV chargers are easy to use as well as cost-effective.
We can also provide smart meters which are ideal for monitoring electrical usage. Smart meters enable you to generate reports in order to reimburse employees for their travel costs.
